Alessane, in more than 25 years of work you have got the possibility to know every aspect of the production of plastics, seeing numerous applications in wide variety industries. The first question, perhaps the most obvious for anyone involved in plastic, is a must: which parameters must be taken into consideration when assessing quality of the plastic?

You’ve to consider many features to be able to certify high quality of a certain type of plastic. For example, a molded part must maintain sizes and tolerances as designed by the original project and should not have burrs and sink marks. Than, one must also know and use the right material to the mold that you want to achieve. It’s very important to respect the defined parameters at all stages of the production cycle (closing time and mold cooling time) to prevent deformations. For this reason, in addition of using high quality raw material it’s necessary to be an expert to work it out. Thats the only way to get well-made products.

Working with plastic is like knowing many members of a large family who, every day, receive new names and new properties. Among so many types of plastic, there is one that particularly fascinated you?

I really like the ABS, a material that requires a lot of attention in the production process but it repays you with an amazing visual quality when chrome plating or painting finishes are applied. Another interesting material is polypropylene, which contrary to ABS, can not be chrome plated, but the presence of fi ber glass in its composition makes it shiny and very durable. However, I prefer the ABS for its distinctive…fragrance.
